Schools Infrastructure Mechanical Upgrade
Volmac Group was engaged by the NSW Department of Education to deliver a comprehensive mechanical services upgrade at Kegworth Public School. This project included all pre-works such as detailed testing and assessment of the existing electrical and mechanical infrastructure to accurately verify load capacity, system compatibility, and future-proofing requirements. Following this analysis, we successfully supplied and installed eight new high-efficiency air conditioning units, delivering enhanced climate control across key learning areas.
The upgrade has significantly improved indoor air quality, thermal comfort, energy efficiency, and long-term asset resilience for the school community.
Schools Infrastructure Load Testing, Switchboard and Power Upgrades
Volmac Group was engaged to deliver a comprehensive electrical infrastructure upgrade program across NSW Department of Education schools. The project involved electrical load studies and power quality assessments on over 30 switchboards — including voltage profiling, harmonic analysis, current draw, phase balancing, — in preparation for additional future loads. We also successfully replaced two ageing switchboards that had exceeded their serviceable life. All works were executed in full compliance with AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 61439, and relevant education sector standards, with zero disruption to school operations. This project highlights Volmac Group’s capability in delivering complex, live-site diagnostic testing, capacity planning, and switchboard upgrades within sensitive institutional environments.
Westpac Chatswood Refurbishment
This project involved a comprehensive interior refurbishment of the lender’s office spaces, including officers’ rooms and waiting area. The scope encompassed demolition and responsible disposal (with recycling where applicable) of existing joinery, furniture, fixtures, ceiling tiles, floor coverings, and blinds; make-good of walls following joinery removal; supply and installation of new acoustic ceiling tiles with grid repairs and integration of mechanical grilles and fixtures; full repainting of interior walls, feature walls, and timber doors using compatible low-sheen and semi-gloss paints; supply and installation of new carpet tiles in specified colours to general working areas, stairs, and meeting rooms, including removal and disposal of existing coverings, stair nosings, and repair of a timber floor hole in the common area; supply and installation of new roller blinds with transparent fabric following removal and recycling of existing blinds; electrical upgrades including new panel lights with disposal of old troffer lights, replacement of switches, GPOs and data faceplates, and reinstallation of emergency fittings after ceiling works; supply and installation of flat bar skirting to walls where joinery was removed; and allowance for two builders cleans following handover of each stage. The works were undertaken in a live operational office environment with ongoing use by staff and visitors, with minimal disruption achieved through out-of-hours programming where required, dust and noise controls, barriers, daily inspections, work-zone demarcation, furniture relocation coordination, and strict phasing. Protective measures included debris containment, trade briefings on scope boundaries, and limitation to non-structural areas. The refurbishment enhanced functionality, acoustics, aesthetics, and sustainability while preserving the building’s overall appearance, operation, and integrity without any adverse impact. Supporting records, including photos and compliance details, were maintained throughout.
National Arts School
This project involved like-for-like roof replacement on the ancillary toilet block at the National Art School (former Darlinghurst Gaol), 156 Forbes Street, Darlinghurst NSW 2010—a State Heritage Register item. Works included new tin roofing sheets, treated pine framing, insulation, Gyprock ceiling linings, repainting of internal ceiling and walls with compatible paints, new lighting and temporary removal/reinstallation of windows with resealing.
The toilet block and its roof, linings, finishes, and windows are non-significant fabric; the site’s heritage significance stems from its 19th-century gaol structures, sandstone elements, and cultural history, none of which were affected.
In the live educational environment (ongoing classes, students, and foot traffic), challenges were managed through enhanced supervision, phasing around the timetable, temporary alternative toilet facilities, dust/noise controls, barriers, daily inspections, work-zone demarcation, and coordination with campus management—ensuring minimal disruption and zero interaction with significant heritage elements.
Protective measures included debris containment, protective coverings, trade briefings on heritage boundaries, and strict limitation to the toilet block area. The works preserved the structure’s appearance and function without physical, visual, or associative impact on the item’s overall significance. Supporting records (photos, compliance details) were maintained for the exemption form.
Chifley College – Shalvey
Volmac Group is proud to have collaborated closely with Schools Infrastructure NSW to successfully deliver a modern, freestanding classroom at Chifley College Shalvey Campus — creating an inspiring, future-ready learning environment for Year 7–10 students in Western Sydney.
As the full design-and-construct head contractor, Volmac took complete ownership from concept to handover. Our in-house multi-disciplinary team managed every stage with precision: bulk and detailed excavation, comprehensive civil works, structural engineering for a solid foundation, high-quality concrete slab pouring, robust metal framing erection, plus full installation of new electrical sub-mains, power distribution networks, contemporary LED lighting, fresh plumbing services, and energy-efficient air conditioning systems.
By leveraging our integrated civil, structural, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic expertise — all under one roof — we delivered a seamless, turnkey solution that minimised disruption to daily school operations, ensured the highest standards of quality, safety, and finish, and met strict government compliance.
Completed on time and within budget, this durable, sustainable classroom stands as a testament to Volmac’s commitment to building educational spaces where students can learn, grow, and thrive — aligning with NSW public education goals and our zero-emission service delivery ethos.
Sydney GHS Free Standing Shed
Volmac Group was thrilled to secure the full design and construct contract from Schools Infrastructure NSW for a free-standing shed — a complete turnkey project delivered 100% in-house with no subcontractors.
We managed every phase end-to-end: concept development and engineering design, site civil works and foundations, full electrical fit-outs power distribution, lighting, and compliance, plumbing installations, and building construction including structural steel, cladding, roofing, and fit-for-purpose finishes.
This project highlights Volmac’s competitive edge in the education infrastructure sector: we win bids through intelligent, value-engineered pricing, then leverage our fully licensed, in-house building division alongside dedicated electrical and plumbing teams to deliver exceptional quality, strict timeline adherence, tight cost control, and seamless coordination — all while maintaining our commitment to sustainable, zero-emission site practices via our electric fleet.
The result is a durable, functional shed built to withstand heavy use in a school environment, providing reliable storage or operational space that supports NSW public education goals.
